The Phenomenal Dunn Trail - Aonghus

Last week, Room 2 from the legit Motupipi School went on a phenomenal breathtaking camp. One of the staggering activities the spectacular Room 2 did was the astounding Dunn trail. ”I can't believe we have done the dunn trail” said the powerful Louis and the fabulous Janet. We spit into two groups, the experienced ones and the non-experienced ones. We started biking up and down hills and along flats. On the second round I hit a loose rock and went thumping down a four meter cliff and almost broke my leg. My blood was running through me faster than usual. I felt pain all through my body. ”Next time I do that I think I'll do the switchbacks properly”. I said to Mr M.

Wonderful Wave Pool

Last week Motupipi school’s Room two invaded the wave pool. It was part of their marvellous class camp. After diner at 7:00, Room 2 were scampering into the cars because they were off to the superb wave pool.”This is going to be waveful,” said Ruby. When Room two arrived at the wave pool they scrambled out of their cars and Olive said “cool bananas were at the wave pool.” When inside, Room Two rushed into the changing rooms, pulled on their togs and sensibly walked into the pool room. “I slipped and slid in my rush,” said Emily. Room two jumped and dived into the pools. “Whoops, you shouldn't walk into the pool with your eyes closed,” said Angus. It was a terrific experience!

We Flip In!!!

Last week I made it to Christchurch. One of the activities we did was Flip Out. I went with my aunt, uncle and cousin. And my brothers Sanai, Oshi and Grandma. On the way they got lost so we got there first. I said to myself this will be fabulous. I ran straight to the foam pit and did a legit back 180. We also did laser tag. The teams were: Oshi my cousin and me. Our enemy was my uncle, Sanai and Grandma. My team won. The score was about 1900-1300 to us. On the way home we made it back safely that was a phenomenal day I thought!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Room 2 Gets Wowed! - By Lochie

Last week room 2 from Motupipi School went to the WOW museum as part of there super duper spectacular awesome class camp! “This place better than chocolate,’’ Ryan a room 2 student could be heard shouting excitedly on the way in to the awesome WOW museum. When the class got in the cool museum, they had to firstly get a sticker & then went into the awesome room were the suits were. The suits just WOW me, I did not think it would be this good!’’ said Kiva. Man, they were just super awesome burgers, ’’ Lochie shouted as we were going into a another room. But the next room was just awesome. It had a awesome ice monster, I wanted it for myself one day. As we were looking at the cool costumes, we went in a back room & there were glow in the dark costumes. I did not want to leave but eventually we did. “That was cool bananas, Lochie said on the way back to camp!!”

Room Two Rules the Wave Pools - Scarlett

Last week the awesome room two kids from Motupipi school went on their outstanding school camp at Tahuna,

They were going to the fabulous wave pools.”
This is going to be awesome,” shouted Olive, my best friend,
as we were driving to the Wave Pool. When we got inside,
I ran and did a big splash into the wave pool. It was so warm.
Ruby nearly gave me a heart attack when she jumped into
the pools, she did a big belly flop. Mr C, our principal, was
throwing all the students into the water and Mr M, our teacher,
was pushing all the kids off their floaties whenever a wave
came. Mr M tried to hop on one, but he fell straight off the
floaty. Malika kept on saying “I can still taste all that chlorine
in my mouth, it’s disgusting!” We were just driving back to
the awesomest superb most jaw dropping camp at the time.

The class camp was epic. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it and the kids had a blast. It was a varied and packed schedule with a bit of something for everyone. I hope you enjoy this video which includes pictures and footage of a range of the activities that we experienced over the week.

Impressionist Art / Camp

Inquiry / Art

This week we've been learning about Impressionism and doing a painting inspired by Monet's waterlily / Japanese bridge works. We looked at how to build up texture by overlaying colours and using different paintbrush techniques. We've also been looking at the process that artists use to create different works. For this one we sketched a rough mid-line on the page in pencil before we started and used that to see where to sketch a rough guide for the pond and bridge. We then went in with our paint and started layering up the textures.

Camp

Mark has been over to Nelson twice and I've been over once recently preparing activities, doing a site visit etc. The activities are locked in, kids are primed and we're all looking forward to an excellent camp. On Friday I sent home a final notice with consent form, itinerary and gear list. Please make sure you receive the forms. Let me know if you need another one if Friday's one becomes lost or misplaced.

Week 3 - What've We Been Doing?

Last week was another big week in Room 2. On Friday Malcolm (who is a Teacher Aide tagged in to Room 2 one hour a day) dropped his usual maths and reading program and utilised his expertise as a hockey coach to give the kids a more in-depth session than I'm able to. What a great bunch of sports people there are in Room 2. I'm consistently impressed with both their skill and sportspersonship. 

The Majority of students also finished their one point perspective art. The finished works are on the wall in Room 2, but here are some (slightly budget - sorry about that) photographs of the finished product. I thought the kids produced absolutely stunning works. 

Just a reminder that Maths Buddy tasks are set weekly. If you don't want to do MB at home, that's absolutely fine - the students have time within the maths programme to work on it. 

In terms of reading material at home: most of the students renew their books weekly at the library, and the majority seem to go to the town library regularly. Reading to your child nightly is recommended - a chapter book of interest is ideal. Also, I think it is absolutely realistic for your child to be reading a minimum of 15 minutes per night themselves (again, chapter book of interest and appropriate level). Now's a good time to check in with your child about what they're reading and get routines in place for reading to them if you don't at present and it fits with the family schedule.

Polyhedrons
