Garden Signs and BTB Points Auction

 Kia Ora Koutou Katoa,

A little technology project we had on the go this term was making some signs for the school garden. This was done in conjunction with Sol. We also could not have completed the project without Malcolm's patient help and handyman skills. The signs took a good part of the term to complete; we worked in small bursts over several sessions. First the kids identified the perennial that they wanted to label, then they researched its scientific name, did some observational drawings, made a mock up of their layout, primed the plywood board, and finally transferred their design onto the sign. Once the signs were finished, the kids drilled holes in them to attach a rope, which they platted out of flax, to the sign. We then proudly hung them in the garden. Pop by the school garden if you get a chance and check them out.

BTB Points Auction
Every term I run a BTB points auction. Over the term the students build up a bank of BTB points awarded for good behaviour, outstanding manners, great sportsmanship, excellent work habits and superb effort in their learning. At the end of the term the students use their points to bid for items which have been donated to the auction.

This is the call for donations of any small items that are no longer wanted for the students to bid on. In the past students have brought in old toys, stationary, books or other random items - any small inexpensive items you could send along will contribute to the fun of the auction. Please send along with your child by Tuesday.

Class Movie and Car Boot Day Singers

Kia Ora Koutou Katoa,

The term is absolutely flying by. In between maintaining a class programme and enjoying extra curricula activities such as swimming sports and triathlon training we've somehow managed to find time to make our annual class movie. It's also on the school website, but here it is here for your enjoyment.

In other news, Maki's car boot sale was a great success. A bunch of kids sang at it to universal acclaim. I thought they were fantastic. Here's a picture of The Motupipi School Rock 'n' Roll Singers in action.

Tofu with Maki

Kia Ora All,

A couple of weeks back Maki kindly offered to come in to show the kids how to make tofu using chickpeas. I was impressed with how adventurous all the students were with trying it out. Almost everyone tried the finished product and everyone who tried it reported it to be very yummy. It's great to see a bunch of kids so open to different types of food - great job whanau!

Rocky Shore

Here are some pictures from the Rocky Shore study the school did at Patons Rock a couple of weeks ago. It was an excellent day of discovery and a great day out for all involved.

Week 5

Tena Koutou Katoa,

Here's the heads up for what to expect in Week 5:
  • Please bring homework books back on Monday. Even if you don't participate in home learning, getting the books set up and spelling tested is still part of the class programme.
  • Togs: daily please. We'll be heading to the High School pool for another session on Friday. I was super impressed with everyone the Friday just been. All the students who came got in the pool and had a go. I saw some excellent swimming and some amazing bravery.
We're in the process of making some signs for the school garden. These will include information such as the regular name and scientific name for each child's chosen plant. This is also linked in with Technology as we're planning and developing our signs over multiple sessions. Here are some photos of the students doing a sketch of their chosen plant to help them plan their sign. Cheers Sol for contributing your expertise and enthusiasm!
