Kia Ora Koutou Katoa,
I hope everyone had an excellent holiday. I really enjoy term 3 so it feels good kicking into it. In maths we've been finishing off a mapping unit that we started at the end of term 2. Below are some pictures of the students measuring the classroom and drawing floor plans. They used calculators to convert the measurements they took using a scale of 1 metre = 5 centimetres.
The photos taken outside of Room 4 are of the first exploration we've done this year in a new curriculum area: computational thinking. We'll doing some activities that move us closer to being able to do basic coding on the computer, which we'll do towards the end of the term. This activity involved working as a team to be either a 'programmer' a 'tester' or a 'bot'. The students took turns at writing instructions, testing the instructions for accuracy and following the instructions.
This week we'll actually start the piece of writing about a special person I've been mentioning so many times and haven't gotten to yet. If you want to email a photo of the special person your child has chosen for your child to have at school to look at while they write, I can print it for them. I'm also happy to photocopy a hard copy if that works too. This is an optional extra, but is to be encouraged if it's possible.
Rock on,
Mr M
